✍️ THE SCOUT REPORT
Here we are, with one week to go until FPL kicks off for the 2024/25 campaign. Friendlies are wrapping up, drafts are intensifying and real-life transfers are threatening to interfere with them. All of this can be followed on our newly launched app, available at both the App Store and Play Store.
In the meantime, tonight sees the start of Fantasy EFL. That’s why we’ve stepped up coverage of the game by highlighting the best Championship, League One and League Two players, as well as some under-the-radar options. Four experts have combined for Gameweek 1’s Scout Squad, alongside a look at captains, a couple of team reveals and the strategy of how to ration your two weekly club picks.
Not that the Premier League is being ignored. Not at all. Our priced positional guides have continued by analysing several highly selected mid-priced names, plus the Rodrigo Muniz v Chris Wood centre-forward debate. It’s just a shame that £4.5m midfielders are scarce. Lateriser has inspected Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford ahead of next Friday’s opener.
In that same position, premium contenders include England trio Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka. Our new Pro Pundit Yelena looks closer at these late returnees, although the Arsenal man has just racked up 45 minutes in a friendly. Sticking with the Gunners, will there be a rush to squeeze some in? Their league-leading defence has been strengthened further with Riccardo Calafiori and FPL Family’s Sam is now considering using goalkeeper David Raya to cover this backline. She’s also studied the most popular picks for FPL Challenge’s five-a-side.
Meanwhile, the latest promoted team under focus is Southampton. Their manager Russell Martin loves a possession-based style and new full-back Yukinari Sugawara likes to attack. Up front, Adam Armstrong recently netted his third pre-season goal and currently looks like the best forward up to £5.5m.
Those thinking about being Haaland-less will be concerned at last weekend’s hat-trick against Chelsea – his same opponents in Gameweek 1. We’re also seeing numerous Pedro Porro goals ahead of Spurs’ opening-day trip to Leicester. Detailed previews are already up on site for Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Everton.
Elsewhere, Scout have partnered with Sleeper, which is an app for draft and prediction leagues. At FanTeam, they’ve used AI to rate our staff’s EPL Unlimited drafts – a Fantasy format without budgets or player pricing.
To see all this at a glance, check out our pre-season page to quickly access articles and our much-loved minutes tracker for all friendlies. There’s a club-by-club look at transfers and results too. Visit our Members Area for comparison tools and an in-depth collection of Opta data, soon to be joined by StatsBomb’s highly-regarded expected goals (xG) model.
Over on our YouTube channel, regulars Scoutcast and Burning Questions are back. Viewers can see the latest drafts of FPL General, Lateriser, Joe and former footballer Matt Heath, who finished 145th last season. We then asked Az and Sam to rate some sent-in squads.
🏆 Remember, Fantasy EFL kicks off TODAY at 8pm (deadline a week earlier than FPL) so make sure you get your team submitted! Check out the FFScout GW1 Fantasy EFL team here!
Also remember to consider FanTeam’s UNLIMITED BUDGET season game. Just £3 to enter and there is a £30k prize pool! And you thought you couldn’t have Salah, Haaland, Palmer, Isak, Watkins and Trent! You can now!
