✍️ THE SCOUT REPORT

As expected, the two-and-a-half weeks since our last FPL deadline has brought a lot more information about the upcoming landscape. Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Luton have a Blank Gameweek 26, whilst the FA Cup fifth-round draw allows managers to plot Blank Gameweek 29.

Then again, we still only know of Man City and Brentford playing twice in Gameweek 25. Some managers will use this to replace out-of-form Ollie Watkins with Ivan Toney, back amongst the goals after his eight-month suspension. Although Lateriser warns about chasing Double Gameweek players over strong assets that play just once.

Toney will be supplied from the left by loanee Sergio Reguilon, one of the few transfers made during this quiet January window. Headlined by Radu Dragusin, Timo Werner and Valentin Barco, the rest snugly fit into a very swift round-up. Sheffield United newbie Ben Brereton-Diaz is then picked out as a good differential for these midweek fixtures before several Pro Pundits provided some longer-term maverick moves like Mohammed Kudus.

The Ghanaian is back from an early AFCON elimination. Egypt are out too but, unfortunately for those who held onto Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool maestro is injured for several weeks. However, at least team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to fitness, boosting FPL General and allowing him to be a unanimous Scout Squad pick.

Meanwhile, the status of Erling Haaland is uncertain. Former champion Simon March warns that keeping large amounts of money aside could bring more problems when it comes to price inflation.

Aside from Watkins, another underwhelming well-owned player is Bukayo Saka, on five blanks from six. Yet his underlying stats remain good, so we’ve asked some experts to give their ‘keep or sell’ opinion, plus tips on how managers can improve over future months. For example, crazier captains – such as FPL Gunz successfully putting faith in Gabriel Martinelli, part of our most disappointing XI so far – and attacking defenders like Pedro Porro. The Spurs full-back is an xG underachiever.

Still to come before Tuesday evening’s deadline are pieces from Pras and Milanista, with Captain Sensible hoping to steer managers in the right direction. It’s also time for the FFS Cup semi-finals.
