RECOVERING FROM THE GAMEWEEK 5 MASSACRE

For many active FPL managers, the devastating Gameweek 5 quickly became about survival rather than gaining rank. Amongst ‘The Great and the Good’, all dropped apart from Mark Sutherns and so Greyhead looked into each ‘what if’ scenario from their Gameweek 1 squads.

Pro Pundits have discussed their recovery plans. Az listed ten FPL commandments for when times get tough, with Zophar activating his Wildcard to land Salah and two Newcastle defenders. He also includes in-form Julian Alvarez, called “almost undroppable” by Pep Guardiola - although that first word is doing some heavy lifting.

Alvarez is covered by Tom’s Digest and a set-pieces update that also suggests it’s time for Trippier. Whilst Simon March recommends either investing in attacking defenders or moving the budget elsewhere, FPL General made an early transfer to get the Newcastle right-back. He also discussed a rare Gameweek 5 positive – avoiding the Son hype. Behavioural scientist Drmattyd looked further into the recency bias used on both him and Sterling.

Heading into Gameweek 6, a big overriding question for managers will be about keeping faith in the correct players. Rashford, Mbeumo and last week’s rested Estupinan are unanimous Scout Squad picks but it’s different for Chelsea assets. Jackson already has four bookings for dissent, with Chelsea experts asked if Chilwell gets back into the starting XI.
