✍️ THE SCOUT REPORT

The build-up to Gameweek 6 is dominated by Wildcard talk, with over one million chip activations expected before Saturday’s deadline. Of course, the upcoming international breaks are good alternative times for it, so we’ve covered all bases.

If your squad suddenly has quite a few problems that need fixing, Wildcards are useful for putting yourself on the front foot. The ‘Great of the Good’ template is surely set to change, currently featuring Bruno Fernandes, Alexander Isak and Sevilla’s Valentin Barco. One of our four suggested drafts tries squeezing in all of Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Bukayo Saka – top three captaincy contenders - but it’s extremely tough.

Popular players include in-form Nicolas Jackson – even with EFL Cup hat-trick hero Christopher Nkunku breathing down his neck – constant threat Antoine Semenyo, a cheap Morgan Rogers who is finally delivering assists and various Brentford assets like the near-essential Bryan Mbeumo, taker of penalties. He and team-mate Mark Flekken are unanimous Scout Squad picks.

In fact, Brentford and Crystal Palace fixtures dovetail nicely for those seeking a low-priced rotation but former Bee goalkeeper David Raya is possibly hurt, dampening plans for an Arsenal defensive double-up. Pras provides different Wildcard ideas based on his status. Sticking with injuries, Joao Pedro is likely out. Chris Wood and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are leading replacements for the Brazilian.

Pro Pundit Simon March prefers Cole Palmer to Saka on his Wildcard but both make our suggested Free Hit draft – a truly maverick option for this week. As does Eberechi Eze, fresh from missing another two big chances.

In his regular Q&A, Zophar is asked if Luis Diaz can adequately cover Liverpool colleague Mohamed Salah for around £5.0m less. FPL General thinks so, in the short term. A separate article looks deeper into this, though a full midweek rest certainly helps the Colombian’s case.

Still to come before this deadline are Spot the Differential, plus the latest thoughts of Tom Freeman and Lateriser.
