✍️ THE SCOUT REPORT

The big question after every international pause involves injuries and player tiredness. Neale’s comprehensive guide on minutes played helps with the latter, joined by a look at who was rested after September’s break. Friday’s press conferences should reveal more on the availability of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Ezri Konsa.

Those on a Gameweek 8 Wildcard will react to these updates accordingly. One of our three suggested drafts for such managers goes without Erling Haaland but the meeting with Wolves also makes him Captain Sensible’s armband choice. The Norwegian remains unanimous in Scout Squad picks, just like Leif Davis. Ipswich’s left-back is a useful replacement for Konsa because our Big Numbers piece shows he’s the leading defender for chances created.

Meanwhile, FPL Family’s Sam says she’s likely to Wildcard in either Gameweek 12 or 16, later wondering if we’re overmanaging our teams with so much content out there – FOMO is a real thing. The tougher 2024/25 pricing by those at FPL Towers forces a continuing debate: when are the best times to buy and sell premium assets? Lateriser helps answer this by analysing how each one fares against strong, average and poor opponents.

For example, although we’ve been celebrating Cole Palmer’s full FPL year of 307 points and 28 goals – he didn’t start for Chelsea until last season’s Gameweek 7 – he’s yet to succeed versus Liverpool, their Sunday opponents. It’s something to ponder for those thinking of a Trent Alexander-Arnold sale, as are his promising underlying attacking stats and the six-week Alisson injury. Zophar chips in with his opinion on Trent and decent downgrades if money needs to be raised via the full-back.

As well as regular weekly coverage of the new Fantasy EFL game, we look at the contradiction between Man United’s bad form and their attractive upcoming fixtures. The Red Devils seem to excel against lower teams. Brighton’s Georginio Rutter could be a good differential, whilst we also have a go at predicting the upcoming top-flight matches in Sleeper’s Pick’em contest.

Still to come before this deadline are the Watchlist and the FPL General’s latest thoughts.
