✍️ THE SCOUT REPORT - TIME TO REFLECT

This international break has allowed FPL’s initial chaos to settle down. The transfer window is closed, with a fortnight gap preceding Gameweek 5. Neale’s glorious gathering of national team call-ups and fixture dates needs checking out.

Yet it’s a time to look back and look forward. Both Brentford and Manchester City star in an analysis of expected goals (xG) tables, whilst the early performances of The Great and the Good have been compared to recent seasons. Additionally, Pro Pundits Lateriser and Zophar have examined the most interesting stats and lessons learnt so far.

One such data nugget shows how Newcastle’s supposedly struggling defence has allowed the joint-fewest big chances to opponents. Perfect timing then, considering their upcoming fixtures look ready for investment. The only teams keeping them off our Season Ticker’s top spot are newly-announced Double Gameweek 7 sides Luton Town and Burnley. On the other hand, free-scoring Brighton’s are about to get tougher.

With Gameweek 5 on the way, there’s even been talk about whether to Wildcard. Simon March balances out the proactivity of putting out fires versus making a rash activation based on boredom. A separate article weighs up the pros and cons of using this chip now, together with a suggested draft.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ assets are backed for success. The Digest focuses on hat-trick hero Son Heung-min and the Bus Team has a triple-up ahead of hosting Sheffield United. New signings Beto and Ansu Fati are looked at, as we assess whether Dean Henderson will displace Sam Johnstone at Crystal Palace.

As always, check out our Gameweek 5 page for a quick way to access all recent articles and visit our Members Area for comparison tools and an in-depth collection of Opta data.

Over on our YouTube channel, alongside the usual Scoutcast, Burning Questions and Deadline Dilemmas episodes are General’s Orders and Az and Sam’s Q&A. There’s also reigning champion Ali talking about cashing in his prize at the Emirates, before joining Gianni for FPL Winners.
